The objective of the present review was to present the current knowledge on nitrogen (N) rhizodeposition, including techniques for 15N labelling of agricultural plants, amounts of N rhizodeposition and its fate in soil. Rhizodeposition is the process of release of organic and inorganic compounds from living plant roots. It is often quantified in terms of carbon (C) and less often as N derived from rhizodeposition (NdfR). Rhizodeposition of N can be estimated by labelling plants with 15N and following its fate in soil. Most methods used for labelling plants with 15N can only be applied after appearance of the first leaf and only allow pulse or multiple pulse labelling. Only the split-root technique and the application of gaseous 15N allow continuous labelling. All methods available at present have their flaccidities mostly due to the fact that the application of N is not following its physiological pathway of assimilation or by using artificial conditions. In the studies reviewed, amounts of N rhizodeposits ranged from 4% to 71% of total assimilated plant N. In legumes the median was 16% and in cereals it was 14%. Rhizodeposits were 15–96% of the below-ground plant biomass (BGP). In legumes the median was 73% and in cereal it was 57%. The high variability of these results shows the need for more investigations on N rhizodeposition looking especially on the factors influencing the amounts released in different plant species under field conditions. 相似文献

A field experiment was conducted to study the effects of combination of straw incorporation and water management on fluxes of CH4, N2O and soil heterotrophic respiration (Rh) in a paddy field in subtropical central China by using a static opaque chamber/gas chromatography method. Four treatments were set up: two rice straw incorporation rates at 0 (S1) and 6 (S2) t ha?1 combined with two water managements of intermittent irrigation (W1, with mid-season drainage) and continuous flooding (W2, without mid-season drainage). The cumulative seasonal CH4 emissions for the treatments of S1W2, S2W1 and S2W2 increased significantly by 1.84, 5.47 and 6.63 times, respectively, while seasonal N2O emissions decreased by 0.67, 0.29 and 1.21 times, respectively, as compared to S1W1 treatment. The significant increase in the cumulative Rh for the treatments S1W1, S2W1 and S2W2 were 0.54, 1.35 and 0.52 times, respectively, in comparison with S1W2. On a seasonal basis, both the CO2-equivalents (CO2e) and yield-scaled CO2e (GHGI) of CH4 and N2O emissions increased with straw incorporation and continuous flooding, following the order: S2W2>S2W1>S1W2>S1W1. Thus, the practices of in season straw incorporation should be discouraged, while mid-season drainage is recommended in paddy rice production from a point view of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. 相似文献

Information on crop height, crop growth and biomass distribution is important for crop management and environmental modelling. For the determination of these parameters, terrestrial laser scanning in combination with real-time kinematic GPS (RTK–GPS) measurements was conducted in a multi-temporal approach in two consecutive years within a single field. Therefore, a time-of-flight laser scanner was mounted on a tripod. For georeferencing of the point clouds, all eight to nine positions of the laser scanner and several reflective targets were measured by RTK–GPS. The surveys were carried out three to four times during the growing periods of 2008 (sugar-beet) and 2009 (mainly winter barley). Crop surface models were established for every survey date with a horizontal resolution of 1 m, which can be used to derive maps of plant height and plant growth. The detected crop heights were consistent with observations from panoramic images and manual measurements (R2 = 0.53, RMSE = 0.1 m). Topographic and soil parameters were used for statistical analysis of the detected variability of crop height and significant correlations were found. Regression analysis (R2 < 0.31) emphasized the uncertainty of basic relations between the selected parameters and crop height variability within one field. Likewise, these patterns compared with the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) derived from satellite imagery show only minor significant correlations (r < 0.44). 相似文献

Soil density fractionation is a common tool to separate organic matter of different function and turnover. But it has not been tested so far how much soil material is necessary to obtain reproducible results. A reduction of chemicals like polytungstate would further save valuable resources. Here, we show that soil weight reduction from 25 to 5 g was not significantly affecting fractionation results. A study was carried out to investigate the effects of different diets for heifers, low- and high-yielding cows on the microbial composition of their faeces and subsequently the impacts of these faeces on CO2 and N2O emissions, N mineralisation and plant N uptake. A diet low in N and high in acid detergent fibre offered to heifers resulted in faeces dominated by fungi. These faeces were characterised by a low content in microbial biomass C and N and a high ergosterol concentration in comparison to the faeces of high-yielding cows. Added to soil, faeces of heifers led to lower emission and stronger N immobilisation during a 14-day incubation in comparison to the faeces of high-yielding cows. Total N2O emission was significantly (P?<?0.05) correlated with faecal microbial biomass N. Rye grass yield and N uptake were lowest in the soil supplemented with faeces from heifers in a 62-day pot experiment. Plant N uptake was influenced by the faecal microbial biomass C/N ratio and the fungal C to bacterial C ratio. In conclusion, the faecal microbial biomass was affected to a high degree by the feeding regime and faecal microbial characteristics revealed higher impacts on plant N uptake than soil microbial properties. 相似文献

Because domoic acid, a neurotoxic secondary metabolite produced by marine diatoms in the genus Pseudo-nitzschia, is hypothesized to be part of a high affinity iron uptake system, we investigated whether domoic acid could improve the competitive ability of Pseudo-nitzschia delicatissima, and whether the availability of iron changed the outcome of competition experiments. We found that domoic acid had a slight negative effect on growth of the diatom Skeletonema marinoi when it was grown in monocultures. However, when S. marinoi was cultured with P. delicatissima the presence of domoic acid resulted in a reduction of S. marinoi cells by up to 38% and an increase in P. delicatissima cell numbers by up to 17% under iron replete conditions. Similar effects were not observed in low iron treatments. Domoic acid was not taken up by P. delicatissima cells. Overall, our results indicate that domoic acid can improve the competitive ability of Pseudo-nitzschia spp. and that iron is likely to be involved. This study provides an unusual example of indirect inhibition of competitor growth mediated by a secondary metabolite. 相似文献

Precision-cut lung slices of pigs were infected with five swine influenza A viruses of different subtypes (A/sw/Potsdam/15/1981 H1N1, A/sw/Bad Griesbach/IDT5604/2006 H1N1, A/sw/Bakum/1832/2000 H1N2, A/sw/Damme/IDT5673/2006 H3N2, A/sw/Herford/IDT5932/2007 H3N2). The viruses were able to infect ciliated and mucus-producing cells. The infection of well-differentiated respiratory epithelial cells by swine influenza A viruses was analyzed with respect to the kinetics of virus release into the supernatant. The highest titres were determined for H3N2/2006 and H3N2/2007 viruses. H1N1/1981 and H1N2/2000 viruses replicated somewhat slower than the H3N2 viruses whereas a H1N1 strain from 2006 multiplied at significantly lower titres than the other strains. Regarding their ability to induce a ciliostatic effect, the two H3N2 strains were found to be most virulent. H1N1/1981 and H1N2/2000 were somewhat less virulent with respect to their effect on ciliary activity. The lowest ciliostatic effect was observed with H1N1/2006. In order to investigate whether this finding is associated with a corresponding virulence in the host, pigs were infected experimentally with H3N2/2006, H1N2/2000, H1N1/1981 and H1N1/2006 viruses. The H1N1/2006 virus was significantly less virulent than the other viruses in pigs which was in agreement with the results obtained by the in vitro-studies. Amino sugars are increasingly used as indicators for the accumulation of microbial residues in soil and plant material. A
reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography method was improved for the simultaneous determination of muramic acid,
mannosamine, glucosamine and galactosamine in soil and plant hydrolysates via ortho-phthaldialdehyde (OPA) pre-column derivatisation
and fluorescence detection. The retention time was reduced, and the separation of muramic acid and mannosamine was optimised
by modifying the mobile phase. The effects of excitation wavelength, OPA reaction time, tetrahydrofuran concentration and
pH value of the mobile phase on the amino sugar separation were tested. Quantification limits were in the range of 0.13 to
0.90 μg ml−1. No interferences exist from amino acids or other primary amines, occurring in soil and plant hydrolysates. 相似文献
